Did a fresh install and everything was fine. After a reboot I find there is no network connection at all. I rebooted again and it was there, then I rebooted after that and it wouldn’t connect again. Bringing the interface down and up seems to work, but I shouldn’t have to manually do this. Something is wrong. It didn’t do this on the prior version.

Manually enable Internet Connection Sharing: right click the network adapter you want to share, properties, sharing, then enable it for vEthernet (WSL). The IP address for WSL now changed to some default ICS IP, 192.168.137.1. In WSL2 Ubuntu, edit the eth0 interface to be in the same subnet: ip addr add 192.168.137.10/24 dev eth0
and ens3 changed to eth0 but still no internet connection. also inet, netmask and broadcast line was missing. then i ran sudo ifconfig eth0 207.154.193.4 netmask 255.255.240.0 the missing inet, netmask and broadcast now appeared. also, now it said RUNNING. I tried to ping www.google.com but still there was no internet. So the issue remains
As mentioned earlier , when Ubuntu 12.04 was installed , the Wifi connection to this router was working fine which shows that the WLAN / BT interface HW must be OK .The owner would like to use Win 7 Pro though , not Ubuntu.
